While it seems like only yesterday, it was almost 30 years ago that I fulfilled my passion for the corporate world. However moving on in a different career direction doesn’t mean I left behind my love and devotion for ‘Terminal Care’. My childhood dream was to be 3 things:
Being a terminal care nurse for a number of years was very special. I have never lost my love and passion for the care of the dying, it was and will always be one of the most rewarding, challenging, giving, and special of all my Registered Nursing experiences. I hold dear to me still today those whose hands I had the great privilege to hold in their final moments, the families I helped to stay close to their loved one and those most importantly I was instrumental in allowing to leave our beautiful world with grace, with peace and with dignity. I felt then and will forever feel blessed to have had these privileges.
So, it is natural for us to have Hospice as one of our ‘Charities’ of Choice. We love and respect what they do, they are such an important part of our community. We also know and understand that for most people, we don’t want to know about Hospice until we need them.
Hospice have built teams of incredible local volunteers to support the wonderful work they do and continually build on their philosophy of ‘Care’. Hospice is not about a building you go to, it is about ‘care’ of the whole person and their families in their time of need.
We love hospice and feel privileged to support them in any way we can.
